- Story of the Presiding Deity
According to the scriptures, Lord Kartikeya was born from the divine, fiery seed of Lord Shiva, destined to destroy the demon Tarkasura. The intense heat of this seed was first entrusted to Agni Dev, who was unable to contain it for long and passed it to Ganga. As her waters began to evaporate, Ganga placed the seed upon the Sharavana reeds, where it divided into six radiant children, cared for by the six Krittikas.
When Goddess Parvati beheld the crying children, she embraced them, merging them into a single divine being with six faces. Trained by Shiva, Shakti, Brahma, Saraswati, and Lakshmi, Kartikeya grew into a powerful warrior and ultimately destroyed Tarkasura.
After his victory, Lord Shiva asked Kartikeya the meaning of Om (Pranava). Kartikeya revealed this sacred knowledge privately to Shiva, earning a revered place upon Mahadev’s shoulder—much to the joy of Goddess Parvati. Thus, Kartikeya became known as the divine force that gives meaning and strength to Om.
Born of Shiva’s blazing seed and nurtured by divine forces such as Agni, Ganga, the Krittikas, Lakshmi, and Parvati, Lord Kartikeya embodies disciplined power, wisdom, and victory—energies reflected in the 6 Mukhi Rudraksha.
